Crisis management

Crisis management identifies a pending event that can cause the organisation damage, minimises the impact, and activates predetermine activities toward crisis recovery.

Crisis management is designed and practised to respond directly to an anticipated or existing crisis.    An organisation’s capacity to manage a crisis requires an established capability framework that integrates four core activities and functions: Culture, Leadership, Competence, and Structure.

Evaluating an organisation’s crisis management maturity will illustrate deficient risk, security, and business continuity attributes.

Crisis Management Plan

The design of a Crisis Management Plan (CMP) is to assist organisations to manage the occurrence of any event that has the potential to impact negatively on the organisation’s operational and strategic objectives and their service delivery outputs.  The CMP includes guidance on the following:

  • Initial assessment of incident severity by a nominated group.
  • The predetermined establishment of a Crisis Management Team (CMT) and Incident Management Team(s) (IMT) and triggers that activate these resources
  • Business impacts analysis.
  • Implementation of crisis management strategies.

The organisation will utilise the CMP in coordinating the implementation of crisis management response and recovery strategies across the whole organisation, including but not limited to an organisation’s workforce, facilities, and recognised dependencies.

The design of the CMP will employ the following crucial objectives when responding to any disaster, emergency or major incident:

  • Protect the safety of staff, employees, contractors, clients and visitors.
  • Protect stakeholder value by protecting your property, assets, and brand.
  • Maintain the loyalty and trust of your key stakeholders, including staff, employees, and customers/clients, to maintain and enhance the long-term value of your services.
  • Re-establish business operations.

We will guide your organisation in developing all aspects of the CMP, facilitate the familiarisation of the CMP to crucial staff and nominated subject matter experts, and develop scenarios designed to test your organisation’s response and application of the CMP.

Your organisation already has a CMP, no problem.  This is a great starting point that will allow us to complete a desktop audit of the existing CMP, facilitate a Crisis Management Maturity Assessment, and, on request, design a scenario to test the functionality of the CMP in real-time.

Crisis management maturity assessment

The extent to which an organisation will successfully respond to a crisis can be measured by evaluating the organisation’s preparation for and performance observations while managing a crisis.

At Preventium, we have designed an evaluation tool that collects data qualitatively, focusing on four critical attributes of crisis management: leadership, decision-making, crisis communications, and continued improvement.  Each attribute has several resilience indicators providing a detailed analysis of strengths and weaknesses in specific areas.

Based on the evaluation, we can develop a tailored crisis management improvement plan in consultation with your organisation’s key stakeholders.  Please schedule an appointment or send an enquiry.

Crisis Leadership Mentoring

Our mentoring program is designed to help leaders effectively manage their emotions and behaviours during times of crisis.  We help leaders develop the skills and strategies to stay calm and focused during uncertainty and chaos.  Our mentoring focuses on assisting leaders in developing the ability to make quick and effective decisions while also engaging in effective communication with their teams and stakeholders.  We also emphasise the importance of self-care, allowing leaders to process their feelings, not become overwhelmed and devise strategies to work through difficult situations.

Investing in enhancing an organisation’s leadership capability enables leaders to quickly adapt and respond to internal and external disruptions in order to maintain operations, minimise losses, and ensure continuity of services.  To explore further how a mentoring program can instil confidence in individual leaders, make contact with us here…
